Hats off to Chuck E. and SCEDA for this race, Big turn out (38 I think). I certainly hope this will be a regular event. Chuck Norton kicked my butt although I had a great time. Any info on who won??

Got too late to finish combo with Kyle Rizzoli and Mike Johnston in the final. they will run in the am. Good turn out and support. May the best Bridgewater car win!

What a great day!
Thanks to all who showed up (42 S/SS cars) to make the turnout for this event worthwhile...and especially a big thanks to Chuckie Echmalian and the folks from SCEDA! This event was well run - no hassles parking the race rigs, no sour attitudes from the track and officials, efficient use of time and space at the track, clear concise directions from the announcers, and really good track prep despite the rain this week! I, for one, will be ready to spend my racing dollars with SCEDA next year if we are invited back for the race season.....and I promise to cut a better light in eliminations! BRAVO! |

Hats off to Chuck E. What a great event! SCEDA was very organized. Too bad my car is still on the trailer.
Has anyone thought about having a Southern California S/SS Association so we can be more organized to have more events like this? Communication is the way we can promote events like this. There is such a high concentration of S/SS racers here in Southern California and we only have the NHRA Divisional and National races to test and run our cars. A huge plus for this race is the cost was very reasonable and it is close to home. We really have no place to test our cars and just get seat time! If you think this is a good idea, post a response to this thread. I have tried Irwindale, Barona and Fontana with very limited success. The issues are primarily track prep. With the big tire bracket cars, they have those huge tires so track prep is not as critical. Thursday open run nights at Irwindale are a joke and you have to run mufflers. If one out of four runs my car hooks up, I am surprised. Our skinny tire cars need good track prep. The track at Fontana was bad before the races started. The track had not been run for a month. The NASCAR races closed the track for a month. They did an awesome job getting rubber on the track. I saw very few cars spin, if any. Even the A/SA cars were hooking. I saw many cars at this race that I haven't seen in a long time. In fact, Mike Williams is in the final. I haven't seen his car at the races in over a year. Again, go Chuck. I think we should name this race the Armenian Open! |

Hi. Real sorry I didn't make it this weekend. I was planning on going right up unil Monday morning when we got the news that my wife's mom passed away. The funeral was yesterday, I was asked to speak,(there's certainly easier duty to pull than that one), so my red Chevelle is on the trailer until Pomona,I guess. I'm really glad to see that it was a success, I plan to support it all I can next year. Tony Janes drove our red Chevelle wagon, hope he did well. Hint, hint. What about Fontana hosting a Div.7 grade-point earning National Open next year? There wouldn't be a problem with alcohol car noise, and it probably would work. Again, thanks to all of you who made it happen, meanwhile,I'm believing for better times ahead for us. Thanks again.

SCEDA seemed happy with the turnout. I know we can do better in the future and hopefully a 6 race series next year will do the trick.
Other than having carb issues, I had a good time and it seemed most everyone else did too. I am certainly looking forward to having more races available in my backyard next year. Thanks to all who helped put this together.

The Saturday raced was won by Kyle Rizzoli over Mike Johnson. On Sunday there were only 17 car, there would have been more but at least 10 car had problems on Saturday. I left before the final Sunday. The 3 car left were Jaun Mendoza, Doug Lambeck and John Mason. There were 42 cars on Saturday. Here are some pictures from the race.

Too bad about the Sunday car count. I would have stayed for Sunday but I had to work that day. SCEDA ran a nice event and I hope they put together a series for us next year.
Nice photos Tony - the only thing missing is a silver Camaro! |
