Long time SE and bracket racer. Just finishing up on an easy 10.50 car. Can't afford to run a fast SE car anymore. How successful can I be in S/ST w/o running electronics. I had little problem running an11.00 index (.1-.2). Just can't see running a throttle stop either at top end or launch. Any suggestions?

I've been pretty successful with an "Adjustaflow" carb (vacuum secondary with a bolt). My car can run 10.50 flat out at minimum weight and can run 10.90 easily on a hot day at Bristol. I can run the secondary nearly closed and run 10.90 on a cold day at Gainesville. MPH runs about 122 and it's a lot of fun to cut a good light and run the number and watch the big mph cars break out.
Try it -- I think you'll like it. Ed Swearingen Silver Dollar Raceway |

I agree with the way it should be.
I think all the electronics are bad for competive racing. I race S/G with a car that can easily run S/C but it was more fun when I shifted it myself and used a bolt on the carb linkage to set the ET. I am old and miss the old days!!! My 2 Cents |

I have often wandered why so many racers build a car that will run low 8's or even high 7's only to have to slow them down to run a 9.90???? wouldnt it be easier for the driver and the equipment to build a S/G car that will run say 9.4's and not have to put it on a stop at all or for a minimum ammount of time?
I am going to be running S/St or S/G this year after being away from NHRA racing for several years, and our Mustang with the little motor will run 10.6's and with the better motor it will go 9.7's.. either way I am going to try to run without a stop, and use timming or wieght to put me on the number.

Ed: how are things going at the track? Man I have not been up there in a few years. Wife and I used to really enjoy going there when we were in N.C. , but since we moved to Florida just have not made it back up there..
Did you ever do anything with that old funny car body we brought down? Fred & Tammy Ferrante FerranteRacing

Freddie, It's great to hear from y'all. It's a long story about the funny car. The sign man got it and ran into some problems turning it into a "sign". He's still working on it.
Your idea about the throttle stop is dead on. One of your fellow NMRA O/C racers, Charlie McCulloch, won our LODRS last year and also our '07 S/ST CSR/Fort Wayne Series championship by dialing in a 10.60 O/C Mustang with weight. Again, we're looking forward to seeing y'all again. Our CSR/Fort Wayne S/ST series will continue next year and we have the NHRA LODRS coming back in October. |
