SBC: 66 years and counting Quiz.
I purchased a book entitled "Chevrolet 1955 Creating the Original. A lot of cool facts, and neat pictures about the building of the GM Classic. The book also has a section on the development of the Chevy v8 265. The quiz question is "what were the first problems GM had with the 265 v8,and what did the dealers do to try and fix them?Hint: One required a substance to be poured into the engine.

Randall, according to the Chevrolet book of numbers the 411( Dual 4bl carbs) option suggested list price was $225.00. With delivery and handling added $242.10 to the window sticker of your 56 chevy. The 449 option of the high lift cam was $188.30.Air conditioning was the most expensive option at $430.50.On the Corvette models the dual 4 bl stuff was only $150.65.

Re: SBC: 66 years and counting Quiz.
Correct. I think they called it Bon Ammi back then, and it was a mild abrasive cleaner used to clean the scum from you bath tub. LOL. They also had a problem with rocker studs pulling out at higher rpms, and since the first 265s had flat top pistons the valves dinged them pretty bad. They found out that a gauge at the head assembly wasn't adjusted right and the studs were not installed to the right spec.

Re: SBC: 66 years and counting Quiz.
In 57 when the fuel injection version of the 283 was released it was said to be the first engine to make 1 H.P. per cubic inch. When some doubtful GM engineers got around to putting one on a dyno what horse power did it actually make?
