Carb to hood clearance

I have a 1983 Camaro that I built to superstock specs by using parts from Ed Quay, these parts included front engine plate,mid plate and trans mount. These parts dictate where the engine sits in relation to the hood, which places the carburator really close to the bottom of hood. I am presently bracket racing the car and am not pleased with the consistency. I have had several people tell me they have had a similar problem and have fixed it by going to a hood scoop. With my future plans of running this car as a superstock legal class car this is not an option. I see plenty of 1982-1992 Camaros running in superstock with stock flat hoods and appear to be consistent. My present carb is a Holley but I'm sure most of the legal class cars are using Q-jets, is it possible they do not require as much carb to hood clearence? Thanks in advance for any and all input.
