I am currently racing my 70 cuda at the local track in NHRA pro bracket racing, the next year or so I would like to try super stock racing. My cuda is an old super stocker with a bracket master 545 indy motor. I have spent a ton of time and some money on the chassis and believe I have got that part somewhat figured out. I have been looking at the super stock rules and the factoring for all the classes. I cant determine which combo would have an advantage, the rules and super stock lingo are mind bogling if you dont know anything about it and if you dont have any help. I would love to do the street hemi combo but fear the money would get out of hand, particularly after the initial build I would like to stay in the 9s, the car currently has a best et of 9.54 at 140. Will a 440 keep my car in the 9s? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I have a bunch of questions but I am trying to keep this somewhat short.

You could probably build 2 or 3 440's or 383's for what one Hemi would cost you but you woulnt have the "WAY COOL" factor. Check around at the cost before jumping in.

A really kick butt Hemi for SS, will probably cost your first born ! Carbs to oil pan probably in the 60-70K range .You could build 2 1/2 wedge motors , which would also be kick butt engines, just in a lower class, and a lot less maint ! The voice of experiance, excuse the spelling !......... John

I was thinking the street hemi would be alot less then a race hemi, I have heard of race hemis for 50,000 - 60,000. Is the hemi combo a good combo, or has it been hit with horsepower so many times it will take a lifetime to make it competitive? There was a great article in Drag Racing magazine on stock and superstock ahfs last month. It really shed some light on how the system works, did anybody else read this?
