Smile Dates for the Dutch Classic

This may be somewhat premature but I am going to post it for your consideration and comments. Next year D1 director Bob Lang should give serious consideration to moving the Dutch Classic to Oct.15 - Oct.18 which is 1 week earlier than it has been recently. This would accomplish 2 things: it would be a small step to slightly warmer temperatures, and it would eliminate the conflict with the D2 race at Reynolds, Ga. Next year the Richmond National event is 10/9 - 10/11, the D2 race at Reynolds is 10/23 - 10/25, and the Las Vegas National event is 10/29 - 11/1; so Oct.15 - Oct.18 would be ideal for the Dutch.
By eliminating the conflict with the D2 race; it should benefit the car counts at both events. Let's hear your comments.

seems to me like they used to have it on Columbus day weekend, which is probably the date you are suggesting.

Columbus Day is Oct.12 and next year it falls on a Monday so it will be celebrated on that Monday which is the day after the conclusion of the Richmond National event. I am suggesting the following weekend so as not to be in conflict with any National or Divisional event.

Talked to Bob about this on the weekend. He said that the week before (like you are suggesting) is the Richmond National Event raindate. He doesn't want to risk having to postpone the Dutch if Richmond gets rained out.

Whichever date the Dutch does NOT take (1 or 2 weeks after Richmond) would be a swapmeet at the Grove, and the swapmeet will not move once its date is set.

So if Richmond gets rained out, the Dutch would have to be moved back 2 weeks, which would be November. Bob would rather take the guaranteed date where it is now, than risk having to postpone it to November.

Alan, thanks for the reply; I had not considered the rain date for the Richmond National.
