Race #11 & #12 at Coastal Plains Dragway
This coming weekend is the CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association season finale at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park. At the completion of Sunday's event, we will crown our 2024 CCRA Champion & then begin preparations for the upcoming 2025 season. Gates should open about 5 p.m. on Friday with a test hosted test-n-tune event starting around 6:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
Saturday, November 23rd gates will open at 10 a.m. with time runs beginning at 11 a.m. There will be 4 bracket classes competing as well as CCRA & CCMP. Our Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving dinner is also planned for Saturday afternoon. We will pay it by ear as to what time to plan to eat based on how the racing action is going. Edwards Heating & Air, owned by Ricky & Debra Edwards, of Jacksonville, NC is Saturday's title race sponsor. Mutts N Butts Grooming, owned by Kelsey Alexander, is the associate sponsor for Saturday's race. Sunday, November 24th gates open at 10 a.m., followed by church services at 11 a.m., & new entry time runs for the bracket classes/our Dash for Cash at 12 noon. We will have a small presentation on the track before we start running on Sunday & I would like to ask ALL CCRA racers & crew members to be present. The Sunday title sponsor is Piney Green Electric, Keith & Korey Alexander out of Jacksonville, NC with Brister Racing, Al Brister, being the Sunday associate sponsor. I would like to ask everyone to review the lists of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association sponsors whenever you are needing services performed as these businesses need us as much as we need them. As always, be sure to tell them you heard about their business from CCRA! It appears to be cooler temps for this coming weekend so everyone please stay with your cars in the lanes & come to the lanes when you are called. We look forward to seeing everyone for an action packed championship weekend at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park! |

CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association & Carolina Classic Modified Production racers, you will pay us at the registration table for your weekend's entries. Just tell the lady at the gate that you're with CCRA. You will still need to pay for your crew members at the gate. 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ schedule will be released on Saturday morning!
Saturday afternoon is our Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving gathering. We will decide on a time once racing action gets going on Saturday. |

Re: Race #11 & #12 at Coastal Plains Dragway
Shewwww is the best word to use today! WE are tired boss! 🥱😴 The 2024 CCRA is officially over as of 6 p.m. yesterday at the completion of race #12 at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park. Mother Nature being the "witch" she is has throwed us a few curveballs this year but as a TEAM, we overcame all of those obstacles.
It was a cold November day starting Saturday morning & we tried to make the best of it. The pits at The Dragway at Coastal Plains Park were packed & the action on the track was great. We started with our normal time run, then followed up by our Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Jake Melton cashed in early, picking up the first $100.00 of the day. He was dialed a 6.31 & ran a 6.311. There were a total of 4 dead on runs in Dash for Cash. We had 36 cars make the 1st round call to the lanes. Unfortunately due to weather/track conditions, the decision was made to cancel Saturday's race after a handful of cars run 1st round. It was deemed unsafe conditions & we would re-run the cars that had previously race Saturday night when we started up on Sunday morning. Thanks to Wes Ellis & Ronnie Humphrey for allowing us extra time on Sunday, starting at 10:30 a.m. with plans of completing two full races on Sunday. We woke up to a beautiful morning on Sunday with temps reaching high 60* which made for a perfect day of racing. Our races cooperated with us & we were on the track a few minutes before 10:30 a.m. Dell Britt unfortunately found himself on the losing side of a good run during 1st round to receive the Victory Lane Golf Carts First Round Best Losing Package. Dell had a .051 RT, ran a 6.838 at 96.21 mph on his 6.82 dial. John Lattimore, back racing with us for the first time in a few years due to multiple surgeries, was the only driver on the + side of his run during round 2. He received 5 gallons of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel for his losing efforts. He had a .005 RT, but ran a 6.825 @ 100.89 mph on his 6.74 dial. The lone semi-finalist was Jaymes Rawlings. This was Jaymes' first time competing with CCRA after building a competitive SS combination & he said we will be seeing more of him in 2025. Unfortunately for Jaymes, he timed out in the semi's which is the 1st time he has ever done that in all of his years of racing. BTW, if you need some custom headers built, he sure to reach out to Jaymes & his business Hippie Fabrication. You won't be disappointed in the quality of his work. The finals brings us veteran racer, Doug Hobgood & younger gun, Andrew Hilling. Neither driver was stellar at the hit but Doug picked up the victory from the double breakout run. Doug was dialed a 5.89, had a 0.104 RT & ran a 5.886 @ 113.81 mph while Andrew was dialed a 6.33, had a 0.152 RT & ran a 6.322 @ 105.84 mph. Doug received his race winnings, a trailer check from MJ Custom Printing & Graphics, a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, a certificate for a set of E3 Ignition spark plugs, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of Fuel Factory F12 racing fuel. Andrew received his race winnings as well as a smaller trailer check from MJ Custom Printing & Graphics, a $50.00 gift certificate from Portatree Timing Systems, a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Ignition, a $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of F8 Fuel Factory racing fuel. Homer Carty received the Dunn Logging Company sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award for his .002 RT during R1. Don Sweeting suffered engine failure & was unable to compete in today's race so we received the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award. Race winner, Doug Hobgood also received the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award after taking out the Sunday Darlington Dragway race winner, Homer Carty, in R3 & he also got the Gutters by Design/Worst RT award for his 0.684 RT during the semis when Jaymes Rawlings timed out. The Wisecarver Brothers Sportsmanship Award was given to Dell Britt for always supporting his friends & their racing endeavors even if he loses out early in a race. Dell is always one to see hanging around the track pulling for his friends! The Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package went to Andrew Hillings for his R3 win. He had a .006 RT, ran a 6.345 @ 104.15 mph on his 6.33 dial. |

Re: Race #11 & #12 at Coastal Plains Dragway
Sunday's race action started shortly after 2 p.m. We completed our 1st race & then did our 3rd Annual Karen Hardee Warren award presentation & this year's award winners were Keith Alexander & Sheila Sloan. Neither of these two knew about them getting the award & I think both were shocked when their names were called out. Due to time restraints, it was determined to go straight into first round action & apply the Warren Engines Dash for Cash money to the winner & runner-up. There was a random tech card pulled from all entries for the Half Moon Marketplace "Act of Giving Back" & Tanner Hiatt was awarded the $35.00 Visa gift card. We had 38 cars make the 1st round call for this race. Homer Carty picked up the Victory Lane Golf Carts First Round Best Losing Package money. He was dialed a 6.12, had a .066 RT, & ran a 6.126 @ 108.84 mph. Jake Melton received 5 gallons of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel when he lost his run during R2. He had a .052 RT, ran a 6.301 @ 103.49 mph on his 6.29 dial. Curtis Smith Racing was the lone semi-finalist where he took a loss against Tanner Hiatt. Curtis was late at the hit & broke out running a 6.983 @ 94.10 mph on his 7.00 dial in. Curtis Smith Racing also picked up the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter Award taking out the previous race winner, Doug Hobgood. The finals were now set between Tanner Hiatt & James "Cooter" Williamson. Just like the last race, neither driver wanted to take a chance getting bit by the red bulb in the finals & both were late at the hit. Cooter came out on top over Tanner although Tanner ran dead on his dial but was too much to overcome the difference at the tree. Cooter had a .109 RT & ran a 6.415 @ 98.35 mph on his 6.35 dial. Tanner had a .176 RT, ran a 6.546 @ 102.91 mph on 6.54 dial. Cooter also received The Wisecarver Brothers Sportsmanship Award. He entered the CCRA membership on the very late race of the season basically just to support our association. Williamson received his race winnings, a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, an E3 Ignition certificate for a set of spark plugs, a certificate for 50% of one item from Zamp Racing, $100.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, $100.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of racing fuel from Fuel Factory. Hiatt received his race winnings, a certificate for a set of spark plugs from E3 Ignition, a $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, a $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, & a 5 gallon pail of racing fuel from Fuel Factory. Jim Reynolds, first race for 2025, received the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award after being the only car to lose traction during R1 of competition. Dell Britt received the Dunn Logging Company "Paul Bunyan/Best RT" award for his .004 during E2 & he also was awarded the Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package of the race for that round win. He had a .004 RT, ran a 6.845 at 91.59 mph on his 6.84 dial. Jake Melton received the Gutters by Design/Worst RT for his .296 RT during R1 which still resulted in a round win.
CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racing is in the books for yet another successful year. We continue to grow each year, both with racers & sponsors. We hope are racers are already looking forward to racing with us in 2025! The final points information will be posted a little while later. Our schedule was released on Saturday & will be posted online this week as well as banquet details for January. I am in search for both returning & new sponsors for 2025 so if you know of any businesses that might be interested, please send them my way. Much love to all of y'all & THANKS a bunch for always supporting CCRA & our officials!!!! |
