A very young, very skinny Don Gay learning how to win from some older guy named Hayden....
Gay’s father owned the Gay Pontiac dealership - Bought Don a 421 SD 62 Cat - asked Hayden Proffit to teach him how to drive.
The kid had talent- at 16 Don won A/S 63 Nats, the A/S at the 64 Winternats.
He took the trophy at the 64 Nats, but was later DQ’d for ‘non stock’ mufflers.
He went on to race funny cars.
