08 was my first stock year, Like Myron said, buy a legal car a bit more on the obscure side so you don't have to run heads up. I think the mustang for sale in Arizona would be perfect, it would likely be a class winner too, which would increase your fun factor by 150%.
Its all about the $ today. You will still have to get to the track, and you can do it with an open trailer, pulled by the family 1/2 ton or as in prior posts go the FWD or PS route.
