I've found that you need to work with the compounds available to find the one(s) that work for you.
I use a D-4A compound radial slick which works well in hot conditions with a light burnout, but aren't too hard to work well with a big burnout on cold tracks.

When track temp exceeds 120+, I do a rolling dragster style burnout with that compound.
