I believe the real issue is the total overreach of the government (local in this case). How the heck can you just "re-zone" private property? It strikes right at the notion of the right to private property. If the property owner wants to re-zone, thats one thing. To just have your private property re-zoned with the stroke of a pen, with no input from the property owner feels pretty darn socialist/communist. (Recall, that the first plank of the ten planks to the establishment of a communist state is the abolition of private property).
The owner potentially lost value of property that was purchased under a different zoning and under their interpretation of the value associated with the property under that zoning. How the heck can government strike down value of private property without input, legal proceedings and or compensation of lost value to the owner?
Really, really sickening what is going on in this country right now....
