Hitting a rev limiter will reduce torque applied to the lugs, and in-turn make it easier to pull out of gear. From there you might need some sort of internal travel stop to absorb some of the impact to the shift fork due to sudden engagement. On the Toploader I installed travel limiters on the shift rails, the stops keep the inertia of the shift rails from being passed along to the stock forks when the faceplate lugs suddenly jerks the slider into gear. Here you can see my homemade aluminum stop sleeves installed on the shift rails...
