Re: Mopar 383 rods
The Eagle 383 rod is .994 on the BE width, everything else measures correctly. I even have a new set in the garage I'm trying to sell. Stock BB Mopar is 1.014 BE width. Assembled on the crank and I have over .050" side clearance with the Eagles. That's alot of oil spray. Eagle makes a 2.200/.990 rod with a 1.007 width (a little better), but a wee bit too long at 6.385 (stock is 6.358) that's .027" too long. NHRA states +/-.025. Missed it byyyyyyyy that much!
Eagle .994" wide rod: Your grinding and offsetting the crank I assume. Incorporate larger radii on the rod journals to obtain the clearances you want.
Eagle 1.007" wide rod: Same thing as above. If the rod is too long it can be shortened either by machining the big end or offsetting the pin end. If your using Eagle rods they probably are not accurate to specifications anyways.
Third: Since your a teacher, you should be able to handle a small amount of beauracracy. Submitt whatever rod you believe is acceptable to NHRA for inclusion on the acceptance list. Make it a class project. That way your students can learn how to politic a racing organization.
