Thumbs up Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!

Well guys....its up to you and Mike Baker. I just threw out a suggestion that was the only thing I came up with to control the use of expensive and exotic parts that would have to be used if unlimited spring pressures were used. I have done cyl. heads for race cars, and street rides since 1969. the 150/350 is really about all the flat tappet cams can stand with OEM type lifters. They can stand more but wont last long on the street or continued use. The OEM roller cam guys can use more but why not make it the same for everyone. I dont think the 440 six pack guys would complain as a true 440 with non ported heads/heavy OEM rods/heavy pistons/etc. dosent like a lot of RPM anyway. The pressures I suggested are 30 lbs heavier on open pressure for the 6 pack anyway and open pressure is more important than the closed pressure if the closed pressure is enough to close the valve. I used to use 110 closed and 280 open on a bracket motor (350 Chevy) and it would buzz to 7200 RPM easy with a fairly stout cam in it. My old 68 Z-28 would turn 7400 RPM with a stock OEM cam nd only 84 lbs on the seat and 206 open. If anyone has any other ideas Im sure Mike Baker will listen. Maybe a name change for the catagory would help some of the critisim of the catagory as they havent be "Pure" for a very long time.
I like Jr. stock but I like it because of that was a FUN time in drag racing for me. Best of luck.
