Stutter boxes used a timer to turn a down track rev limiter off and on.
It was amazingly accurate at controlling the ET.
As engines got more HP the timers were on so long , some cars went nearly to the 1000' on the rev limiter.
It also sounded like crap and was responsible for more than a few engine failures ,which is what prompted their banning many years ago.
I think they've been illegal since '89 in NHRA.
