Re: Spec trans brake buttons in Super Stock, Comp
Funny...the day they release this is the last day of Jim Skelly. Hmmm.....
My thoughts. And this is only after much research and evaluation. NHRA should allow delay boxes. Why? To level the playing fields and to take out the advantages enjoyed by internal delays that are used by the top racers. Hate to tell you guys but there is more than one way to delay the release of a trans-brake. The transmission and peripheals are hydraulic and electrical. Bleed rates can be controlled by adjustable orifices and resistors, or both. To say this is not being done is sticking your head in the sand. And know what? There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with making these adjustments! So if you want to keep everything on a level playing field for as CHEAPLY as possible, it requires the use of a delay box. Then NOBODY has an advantage in regards to the transmission unit. Those that are "killer" on the tree and defy all logic in explaining their win / loss record would probably be most opposed to an allowance of delay boxes.
The same technology used for auto-trans vehicles should be allowed for manual transmission vehicles.
The only alternative, which I would endorse, is eliminate the use of tranny-brakes. Everybody, auto and manual trans alike leaves with their foot.
Lastly, the AXE button. Apparently it has been disallowed. The racers I know that use this button have paperwork from NHRA spicifically allowing this product for use in SS competition. How does NHRA go back on their written word on this subject?
