That is a pretty good post above. However, everyone that races has been beaten by alot of illegal cars. 12 grams is 12 grams too light. I don't agree that a rod and piston on any combo can be pulled, inspected, and reassembled in 5 hrs. Some can do it, some can't. I've waited 2 hours just to get heads verified after a record run. What about a broken bolt? Installing a heli coil and other problems that can arise from any mechanical surgery? Gotta be some allowable time between the start of eliminations. I'm glad to see protests and glad to see illegal stuff tossed. On the other hand, I hate to see someone buy an engine and get a surprise on a supposedly legal piece. If nothing more than the 12 grams were found I would say that the car owner knew nothing about the problem. However, we now have a spec to measure by and that is good. I don't personally know the guys that put up the money for the protest but I would go easy on the Louisiana crowd. Some of the best guys around are from that area of the country.
