Default Bill Jackson's Racing Engines SST Series 2011 wrap up

Pacemakers Dragway Park, Mt Vernon, OH

You couldn’t of asked for a better weekend for the BJRE SST Final event of 2011. Friday night there was a SST Gamblers race that netted 21 cars in round one and the winners pot went to John Malaby over Steve Bates. Thanks to all the sponsors that out that together and Linn Bebout for being the ringleader of that deal.

Saturday Nights Bill Jackson's Racing Engines SST Series started out with 44 cars qualifying for the event. When Qualifying was over it was Willard Ohio's Rocky Clark with his BJRE equipped 70 Nova grabbing #1 spot 7.001-110.82.
The point’s championship being on the line the point’s leader, Allen Smith started his night out qualifying very low in 34th spot. Second place runner Dan Funk would qualify 32nd and third place in points, Steve Bates would qualify the best out of the 3 in 5th place.
Round one started out with #1 qualifier Rocky Clark bowing out to (at the time) 6th place in points, John Parson and in the top 3 points runners Dan Funk would lose to Paul Fidler to put himself out of contention of the championship. Both Allen Smith & Steve Bates would win round one, two, and three then came round four, Allen was up first against Drew Elliott in his little Mopar Wagon and Allen goes red, Steve is up right behind him knowing he needs to go a round more then Allen. Steve breaks out 6.989 and loses to 2009 Div 3 SST Champion Alex Miller's 7.011. We all thought he championship was decide at that point but one more guy was still coming from way behind, Drew Elliott, he started the day out in 7th in points and was going rounds. In the finals it was Alex Miller's Camaro against Drew Elliott's Mopar wagon. It was a great final with Alex taking the win on a double breakout 6.991 to Drew’s 6.960. BTW if Steve & Allen would of lost in round 3 instead of round 4, Drew would of won the championship, but he put some real excitement into the championship deal, ask Joy Smith, she was ready to kill me when I told her it wasn’t over after both Allen & Steve lost. Congratulations to Allen Smith as the 2011 Bill Jackson’s Racing Engines SST Champion. Steve Bates ended up in second and third was the hard charging at the end, Drew Elliott. All three will receive checks at the banquet.
I want to close out by thanking everybody that raced in the 2011 BJRE SST series as we had 67 cars run for the points. I want to thank my parents for sponsoring the series and let me run it for them; they are really special to me. Thank you to the associate sponsors, JR Hill’s Custom Motorsport Painting in Mansfield, Ohio, Bebout Masonry in Mt Vernon, Grady’s Performance in Grove City and Jenkins Welding & Fabacation in Galion, Ohio.
And not to forget Mike Fouts for letting us do this and the crew at Pacemakers that makes it a great place to race and do this series

We have already committed to doing this again in 2012 and 90% of the associate sponsors have already committed to come back and I’m working on even more.
