Default shift rpm or timer

i have a 3200 lb with me heavy s st car that will run about 9.40 @140 wide open and with the stop coming on .2 and off 2.70 will run 10.90 at 136 at 2000 ft. right now i have all dedenbear electric t stop and shift componants. the rpm shifter is set at 7200. right now i dont have a data logger but i suspect shifting with rpm after the stop is open is causing some inconsistencies judging from my 60 to 330 times. do you guys think i should swith to a timer? its 4400 on the stop. thought doing it with a timer might be better for tire spin and the rpm should be more steady.
