4-6% is the norm, but depending on the combination any car will benefit from keeping the engine working in it's sweet spot regardless of where that is in any given combo. Ideally you would want a converter that flashes 2-300 over peak torque and still produces optimum efficientcy, but every combo is different therefore working with your converter guy to find the piece that works best in YOUR combo is key. Don't live and die by converter slip formulas and opinion, rely on timeslips and real world data
