Re: Wow !! Sonoma stock !!!
I wasn't going to bring this up because I really like this combo for a GT car later on down the road but I feel like this needs to be brought to the attention of the entire NHRA world not just the few people who have actually checked the specs out on this motor.
I have the specs sheet that was turned in by Ford to NHRA and don't understand how this motor was ever accepted for Stock eliminator.
First of all you can't even buy this motor through Ford or Ford Racing. You must either piece it together yourself or go through Mr. Holbrook. Second of all the last V8 pushrod motor Ford put in a car was 1995. I understand rules are bent but this isn't what Stock should come to.
Second of all I tried to buy the heads that are legal on this combo. Went to Ford Racing and the part number that is legal is M-6049-Z304D or M-6049-Z304DA only difference being that the "DA" is an assmebled head and the "D" is bare. This head is sold from ford as a 205cc Intake runner and an 85cc Exh runner. with a 2.02" Intake valve. The accepted Intake runner is 230cc and Exh is 91cc. The intake valve is also changed to a 2.08" vlave. The combustion chamber is also so as a 63cc chamber but was turned in as 56cc. What happen to STOCK??
I poked and proded with a few people including Mr. Holbrook and the answer I got for the lager runners being accepted was so that you could port the heads in SS. What's stopping anyone in Stock from doing these same modifications????
I run a 89' 302 rated at 215hp with the E7TE cylider head. Intake runner 130cc and Exh. 45cc. With a 1.78 Intake valve and a 1.45 exh. You're telling me that with 50 cubic inches .060 inches of lift more and this so called "Stock" cylider head this new 352 only makes 70 more hp?
Give me a break guys... I'm a Ford guy through and through and like I said I'd LOVE to build one of these as a GT combo but for this motor to be in Stock is just an abosolute slap in the face to anyone and everyone involved in the class. I don't care if you have the time and money to go out and buy one of these cars. I don't even car if it took you all kinds of hours to convert a stock V6 car over... It's Bull**** If you have the balls to get on here and brag about running all over stock eliminator in this combo you deserve any and every negative comment that comes your way. Mr. Holbrook himself is running this exact motor in a SS/JA car... I would venture a guess that he hasn't event touched the cam and intake from the E/SA combo he ran last year and last weekend he qualified #4 -.900 under the SS index... only running .400 faster than Sam Tufano did at the Sonoma Div...Sam also did this @ 100 mph and came on here stating that he could have run 10.0x's.... Either Mr. Holbrook is and embarrassing SS engine builder or it's the same motor...
Sorrry for the long post but THIS is what stock eliminator is coming too and as a 21 year old racer new to stock I don't even like where the class is headed. I like bragging to people my little 302 with the ****ty stock E7TE head can go as fast as we've gone and I'm SLOW! The fact that someone can go buy this piece and not understand a damn thing about a motor makes the class lose what little luster it had to me... I'm not going anywhere but there are a lot of the older generations that that don't have the engery to fight for what is right for the class. I don't know who we need to talk to or how much money it's gonna take but we need to come together as Stock Eliminator racers and protest this **** before it's too late...
