to my knowledge GM only built two ratios. 1.76 or 1.82. Generally, smaller engines used the 1.82 and larger engines used the 1.76. But you could find just the opposite of that in some combinations.
In addition, as the powerglide equipped car aged and the trans were overhauled, sometimes more than once during the service life of the unit, changes were often made or used trans installed, etc.
So just because you find a certain trans in a certain car it has a reasonable chance of not being the original setup.
There were some minor internal differences through the years. One of the best reference manuals about selecting parts & building the powerglide is the Carl Munroe book.
