Sox & Martin HEMI Challenge

Between yesterday and today it looks like a number of cars were DQ. Anyone know what happened?

I asked the same question on the LIVE thread. Thanks to Kevin Panzino for the insight!

There were at least 6 NHRA tech guys, including Wesley Roberson ALL OVER the HEMI cars next to the barn/fuel check after Q1. They were measuring wheelbase, checking for the inner fender 'hump modification', checking carb offset spacing, and likely many other items I wasn't able to say nor would it have been appropriate for me to stand over them and watch. I took a bunch of pictures of the overall scene, and will post them when I get real internet.

They were definitely taking things seriously !

Terry Earwood posted he DQ'd for wheelbase too long. Needed to shorten his driveshaft to correct. Hopefully got it taken care of. Don't know about the rest

Funny video. The inner fender rule has been in effect for years. Bucky said NHRA made the rule 2 months ago. 2months ago, same as last year pre indy NHRA issued a reminder they would be enforcing this rule specifically at Indy. So bottom line as long as this car has been raced by team bucky, its been illegal.

Charlie is just a bundle of Love. Great he's back in SS/AH!

Could someone please clarify the "inner fender" rule for those of us not familiar with it and how the teams are running afoul of said rule?
Thanks,
Terry

A few chassis builders were adding bubbles to the inner fenders for tire clearance when coming down off a wheel stand.

That would seem to be a safety addition, not a performance advantage.

The bubbles were needed because the cars were lowered to the point where it became a problem. Adding the bubbles allows them to make the car lower yet. So, safety...yes...because of an attempted performance advantage.

Hah. Well I didn?t want to bring it up on the other thread, because I didn?t think it was appropriate for me to do so. But now that this was brought up by Bucky, I can say, yes I was standing right there when Jason Line went medieval on that beautiful inner fender well on buckys car with a lime green, probably 5 lb dead blow hammer. Sounded like someone shooting a 12 gauge.. My jaw hit the floor. lol
