Bristol Sportsman participants

I know we can not control Mother Nature BUT did anyone really have FUN this weekend ? The majority of us started our racing career for the FUN / Enjoyment factor…

You really can't appreciate how much fun it was until you see Pam Marshall's post on Facebook. They are in their pit space with a shallow river running through it.

BTW you missed the "p" by one place on the keyboard Mike

If you looked at the forecast for Bristol prior to the event, you had a pretty good idea what you were in for. I applaud those who still went. You know what they say, "You can't win if you don't go!"

Will you be making an appearance at INDY? Inquiring minds would like to know.

It is true that you cannot control mother nature; however with that said, I do think its time NHRA realizes that the product they are putting out is becoming dangerously unattractive to both the racers and the fans IMHO. The fans do not enjoy a one lane pro show....and I know for a fact that the pros do not either. The sportsman definitely do not enjoy being constantly bumped or finishing races at other events months later. What happened to racing on Mondays. Bring back 4 day Nationals to have greater flexibility on giving sportsman racers a chance to complete their portion of the race. I am not oblivious to the "pros" and "cons" of 3 day events. Additional time off required, extra costs to NHRA for staffing, hotels, perdiem +++, but something has to give. Pros want a fair chance to win, sportsman want to race at the race they took time off or put aside for and fans want the show to be entertaining...all of these are marginal at best and declining fast. Please NHRA, go back to the drawing board and look at the recipes of past decades successful National Events. MDRGA

I always consider it to be a adventure. Not having a race car for a few years i have been tagging along with RJ Sledge. It snowed in Houston one year. BTW a race car is in the works.

I was -.011 first round ended up being a good thing.
We still had a nice time, visited with friends, watched some racing, left 9AM Sunday and was home on my couch relaxing, if I had won first round, we would have been at Bristol until 7PM, and where we parked, it probably would have been a hour or two before we could have got out, we had to hurry up and leave Sunday morning before a guy got his 3 cars out and blocked our only way out.
I wasn't going to SGMP for Sportsnationals and wouldn't have changed my mind on that so all worked out OK for me..
tough call for what they do about Bristol.. as 1st round runner up ,doesn't appear I have any option, except take a first round loss on the natl. side, not that it really matters, not chasing anything, if I do good later that will be good, if I don't doesn't really matter..if you worry about winning every round, you take all the fun out, I just go up and do the best I can each round, sometimes that is really good and sometimes it isn't LOL
I'm having fun and if I'm blessed enough to do good, that's just icing on the cake.
it may be a mistake or could be the best race i ever go to, but I plan on going to IHRA race @ Columbus weekend of Sportsnationals

Hi Mike ,
I'm thinking the Columbus IHRA race will be no AHFS, and the OEM NHRA will be full AHFS in place. I know where I'd go if I wanted to run like we do at Indy US Nationals. For the guys wanting to stretch'er legs, this is a no brainer. This Bristol thing complicates it.....

Pretty sure I heard one of the NHRA.TV announcers say during the Pro Mod eliminations that the cars were having to scrape the tires after the burnouts because pieces of concrete were coming up and sticking to the tires.

I am guessing that was a big surprise to the Safety Safari and there was not much they could do about it.

Bristol is probably the nicest track I have ever been to but it seems there are always problems with the racing surface for the Pros.
