Toyota Prius tech in Los Angeles area needed

My Granddaughters 2011 Toyota Prius has about 140,000 miles never had brakes she said the the lights on the dash went on lots of lights so she took it to a local Toyota dealership for an estimate/repair ---they quoted her $6000 yes six thousand dollars to repair it --OR THEY WOULD BUY THE CAR FOR $800-- B.S.-NEEDLESS TO SAY they took the car home and the car seems to be running OK at least all the lights are now off---is there a reliable repair shop or mechanic any one can recommend ??? She lives in LA area not sure exactly where but I can get her address--- It sounds like the BRAKE ACTUATOR /ASSEMBLY MIGHT BE BAD ??? I know its a pain in the butt job to do but still cheaper than buying another car--- Let me know if anybody knows a place for her to get it repaired---Thanx FED 387

David--- thanx for the reply---She lives in Culver City and the dealership involved is Toyota of Culver City- lots of bad reviews on their service dept not sure how legit they are but nonetheless they have a bunch complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau too-----Not sure on the Brake actuator if that is what it is tho but Toyota had problems with them and had a service bulletin not a recall but they fixed some cars and extended the warranty a while back--- Fed 387

How are the pads and rotors and the rear brakes? Has the Brake warning light stayed off since you had it looked at? Lots of newer cars are set up that the brake warning light comes on if the wheel sensors signal the car's computer to turn on the Brake warning light if pad replacement is necessary if wear gets to the point where it activated the sensor. We had dozens and dozens if not a hundred or more Priuses in the LA City vehicle fleet when I worked for the City and we put brakes on them as needed, but a hybrid car seemed to not need brakes near as often as a conventional car. Check the brakes, replace as necessary, reset if the light is on, see if that fixes it. Resetting the brakes according to the manufacturer's instructions necessitates a SCAN tool to reset the vehicle computer, but one thing you can do instead is to take the car for a road test after replacing the brakes and making a good complete panic stop from about 35 MPH to activate the ABS system.Sometimes that resets the system and pedal firmness and ABS function resets itself after it has been activated through the panic stop. Might save you some time and cash.
