Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?

I am looking to do some .400 tree racing (ss/sg) with a 3600 lb, big block, p/g, chevlle. BTE 1.80 straight cut 5500 stall 5:29 gear, 15/33.5 tire. I need to pick the cars reaction time up. Was wondering if anyone has some info on what I might pick up by going to a pro brake.

In my supergas car, I went from an ATI bracket brake to a Hipster and picked up about .030...you can also shim out the solenoid and get a little....

With the hipster do you have to hold down the button to back up. And does anyone make one that you don't have to.

The difference for me between a Coan Standard and Pro brake was about .020.

Most pro treeT-brakes require the solinoid to be activated to backup and that includes the Hipster. ATI had an internal solinoid style valve body as well as an external solinoid style valve body and both were faster than the average bracket style brake and neither of those two needed the solinoid activated for reverse.

If the brake change doesn't work put a deeper low gear in it. Make sure you have all the Rev passage dump holes sized right (large) & you have better (stiffer) rev piston springs.
Do you do your own transmisssion work?

No, but I have a friend that does. I run a 28.0 front tire, I was told to put a smaller front tire and change the brake and that would pick me up a lot. I have the car set to run super-pro. I have also been told you can't set the car up to run both, but I don't see why.

Sure you can. That is what they make delay boxes for. Set the car up for a pro tree and add delay when you run a full tree.

There are several things you can do for a quicker reacting car:
1. Pro Brake
2. Shorter front tires
3. Raise launch RPM
4. Change 4 link settings
5. engine location
6. Stiffer side wall in your slicks
7. Practice!

Tony, just cause I'm curious....
How much delay are you running in you car now on a full tree ?

Are you gonna run some local races on the .400 tree or divisional/national events ?
Reason I ask about what events, is, here in the east its really a .370 tree, not sure how to explain that, but the tree was sped up for the pro's to keep them from going red, and back here it rolled over to the divisional events also...So even us guys who were hitting the .400 tree ok had to do some work to hit the .370 tree in light SG cars...and you say (ss/sg) keep in mind the Super Street tree is .500...

Also is the front tied down ?

Take note of what everyone has said & remember converter selection has quite a bit to do with reaction time. You usually have to work with your combination. It's a package deal.
