2004 chevy monte carlo with 200 HP 231 Cu In Engine
 
a neighbor just blew a head gasket on one of these and is not going to fix it. i can pick it up at scrap value. A good or bad combo?

IMHO, I think that the Cavalier is better.

Whatever Billy has.

The Monte is too heavy for any trans that will bolt into it. It will eat the final drive, eventually.
Trust me. If you start going 1.70's in the 60' , it'll happen.

There are a few FWD combos that will run under the index with a bit of work.

If you really want to do this , start thinking turbo.

BTW. FWD cars are not so fast in the 1/8 th mile.
