RIP Dave McLelland. I just received word of his passing. IMO he will forever be the signature voice of drag racing. More special were our conversations at the track and over the phone & him sharing his true passion of the sport, and the inside world of sports journalism. Our world lost another kind soul who was always willing to help & make not just our sport a better place, but the world too. My prayers & love go out to the McLelland family. Jim

A great announcer and a great person. I'll always remember the time in 1971 when he was running the Southland track in Houma LA. He took time to come out into the pits to find us and congratulate us for setting our first national record . It really meant a lot to me then as it still does now.

Another small piece of my childhood is gone, I have to dig up the VHS tapes with he and Steve Evans announcing. RIP
