Goodyear Trailer Tires
 

I just noticed my tires are starting to cup and get flat spots.Anybody have any ideas, is this a tire or trailer problem, and if its a tire problem than is goodyear able to help?

Mark: This past August I went to the U.S. Nationals. On the way up from Louisiana, we had two blowouts on Goodyear Marathon tires 235X85X16. These tires only had 5000 miles on them. On the way back home, we had another blowout in Polaski Tennessee. Only this time I had bought another tire on the privious tire mishap, each time buying a load range e tires. That left only one Goodyear Marathon tire left.

Last week I went to the Houston Stock/Superstock meet and would you believe it the only Goodyear left on the trailer blew out. This time the tire blew out while we were standing still in the pits for about a day! Now I have 4 new tires on my trailer, but none of them are Goodyear tires. It sounded like a bomb went off when the tire blew out in the pits.

I still am looking for a better tire to the 2008 racing season.

John I had a similiar situation happen on my motorhome going to the Gatornationals, and your right sounds like a gun going off. I replaced all the tires on the motorhome with Michelin XPS Rib. I'm wondering if michelin make a quality trailer tire in a 235/75/15 in a load range E or higher?

Thank you John I'm also considering going up to a 16 inch rim/tire combo I imagine Michelin can advise me.

I work as a mechanic at UPS. We USED to run Goodyear tires in our district up untill 2 months ago.
In My fleet of vehicles I have 2 TP60 trailers used to haul extra package volume to outbound centers. These are Pace 6'X 10' enclosed trailers with a max GWR of around 3,000#. We were going through 3-4 marathons a month on these . These were seldom loaded anywhere near max weight and pulled less than 100 miles round trip per day. Our tires are audited for pressure once a month on these so they are not run under/over inflated.
We switched to Towmaster trailer tires (205 70r st) and haven't had a failure yet. I also run these on My 7200 gvw rated trailer towing cars, trucks, tractor with bushhog etc: and after 3 years of heavy use in the nice hot climate here, they are holding up great.
My 2nd choice would be Michelin or Bridgestone.
I deal with and am friends with several tire dealers and to a man, they refuse to sell or even mount a marathon trailer tire.

I've switched over to the tires sold at Tractor Supply Company. They come mounted on new wheels, full of air and ready to use. No knowledge of how long they last yet.

Denman makes a nice tire, load range E. 15 in. can be inflated to 80 psi. Get rid of the Goodyear Marathons if that's what they are.
