Wheelie-Bar by Wham-O
This was posted on a Mopar-related forum I visit. I don't remember the commercial, but thought it was cool because it is associated with drag racing!

Thats hillarious ! I remember seeing that on a few bikes when I was young. Not the commercial though.
Funny to see kids riding a bike in a TV commercial, and not look the Gordy tire man, ballooned up in safety gear. Bare footed, etc. |
Re: Wheelie-Bar by Wham-O
Cool!
Someone posted on the YouTube comments that the commercial would never fly today because of the liability if a kid got hurt. Sad, huh? You need one of those for your car, Myron. :D |
Re: Wheelie-Bar by Wham-O
As a young kid I had a Wham-O slingshot that was great but this , well maybe I can get a set for my Trans-Am and impress my friends as the commercial advertised.........Better yet I should send a set to my friend Wayne Totaro for Christmas--he sure needs 'em.

Re: Wheelie-Bar by Wham-O
Sometime around 1970 I got a bike for Christmas that had a wheelie bar made on it as well as a big sissie bar. I could not wait to get out amd show this baby off. I was pretty fat for a 10 year old, wish it has came with the super low gear set too! We had a gravel drive that was not well adapted for the Jr. Evil Knievel stuff, so some of my best stunts were on the Mean sidewalks of Columbus,NC, LOL.

I remember getting a set for my bike from the catalog of a business called Auto World, I think it was located in Scranton, PA.
Quite an outift, they sold model cars, HO slot cars and also real race car stuff. The wheelie bars needed to have an option that you could purchase a box of Band-Aid's with them too....they did not work well in gravel, specially if there were any fences nearby that had barb wire... :) |
Re: Wheelie-Bar by Wham-O
My Uncle Jim and I made a set of wheelie bars for my Schwinn Orange Crate bike. Sold the bike for $25 years later at a swap meet. Who would have known that that bike could be worth over $2,000 now......
Parachute worked OK also. |
