454/365 rpm

What kind of RPM should be used as shift points or finish line RPM for 454/365 engine combination? I've heard any where from 5800-7500. Pretty sure these are an oval port head, so I know they wont flow like the rectangular port head at higher RPM.

Re: 454/365 rpm

Factory rated 454/365hp was definitely an oval port head. If this is a legal stock engine the cam profile and associated hardware typically dictates that shift rpm will be significantly higher than a "basic" 454. Numerous factors to consider as with any engine but generally I can say 6500 -6700 would not surprise me.

Not many will make much power above 6300

Shift at 6K. I run the 72 version 360hp and have found that works best for me.

Our 71 365hp combo liked 63-6600 area on the shifts
