so after the last race of the season on the east coast (dutch classic ) i again had been out gunned in my class yeah ,my combo doesn't run bad and could content with leaving alone ( no I am not bitching or complaining) after that race i immediately pulled the motor out to find more ,look at the chassis for a better 60' searching for some horse power in the engine ,move or remove weight ,yeah some combos are stacked more than others and you pick your combo and make the best of it ,rule changes can have a impact on how fast you can go with what the rule book allows to run at the given time ,i am the owner,crew chief,mechanic,engine builder ,oh as most have a job that gets in the way of my racing , but i always in search of the last bit of horsepower that i can find with in the rules,but the point is of this post is that every time the motor is out i always find things that can be improved ,what is working and what's falling apart and that's the part where you can push the envelope further (or not)
even if your not the wrenches working on your car keep thinking out side the box on ways to improve your combo with the wrench hand ,, no its not cheap but there are guys/gals out there running fast with minimal financial backing, resources and are not afraid to keep changing things to get the most out of there combo this class is for people who are looking to go fastest with in the rules in place keep working on YOUR STUFF merry Christmas Gmonde |

As always, I'm curious.
So, are there some in Stock who know they'll never have the money to get their car more than .500 under, who are content to make the car cut good lights & run consistent ET's, in order to continue running in Stock, at races where all run ? Are there those who have the same car they've had for a LONG time, which is a bad combination, therefore will never be really competitive in a heads-up run, but they wanna keep running that same car/combo ? Are there some who do a not have a quick heads-up car, but it cuts good lights, runs consistent ET's, & is also used for bracket racing, when not entered in a class race ? OR, do most other class racers look down their nose at all who use their car for bracket racing also ? OR, is class racing made up of some of all these types of racers ? |

oldsckool, in answer to your question “ OR, is class racing made up of some of all these types of racers ?” the answer is a definite yes. Many don’t have the resources to run the higher class cars and their old iron does just fine in the lower classes since in most cases they are not pitted against newer technologies in heads up runs. Whenever AHFS catches up with new combos there will always be a newer faster equally underfactored magic carpet (which NHRA will always approve to keep the class “relatable” to new fans) and some can simply shell out the 50-100K to upgrade. If/when NHRA runs most of us off and regional class associations start seeing more heads up runs they will have to come to grips with that unlevel playing field. I can think of several ways to achieve that but there will never be complete agreement on how to do that. Simplistically you could require dials on heads up runs by cars with new/old platforms but that would be a firestorm. Not solving world hunger here, just a simple means to run mismatched combinations that wouldn’t run off people in the process. Love the heads up runs, if they don’t get your adrenaline pumping you’re in the wrong place but if I’m running a B/SA Barracuda against a 2015 Camaro VIN car then the fun has just been siphoned off by a bogus HP rating which your local association had no part in approving.
