QA1 help
Well, I decided to get a set of QA1 Stocker Star double adjustable adjustable
rear shocks. All I needed was ANOTHER set of adjustments to go with my adjustable PP, adjusting my disc/flywheel gap and adjusting my Cal Tracs!!! I first called QA1 tech line for a bit of info on base line adjustments and a few hints to get me started. The guy keep saying "it depends". By the end of the conversation I needed depends. It seems to me that I need some extension(?) to help plant my rear tires. I started with 6 clicks of compression and 10 clicks of extension, per QA1 instruction(s). Well my 60 ft are not where I would like. I believe that(for me) a 1.50 60 ft should be attainable. Any one that could suggest a next step or any info would be great. Terry K |
Re: QA1 help
Don’t know about the QA1s but the Caltracks are pretty straightforward. Left side neutral, right side one turn preload. If it goes right- more preload, goes left- less preload. Lock them down and go race, check them every few years.

Re: QA1 help
I run old Rancho single-adjustables in the rear with Caltracs. Used to run them full-stiff; now I run them in the middle. Honestly I've never noticed a difference either way. It always works.
I'd think maybe on extension to get the tire planted and then stiffer on compression to keep the tire planted. Generally speaking, you'll use tighter extension on a good track and softer on a bad/hot one. Painter is dead-on with the settings although my car never went one way or the other. I adjust to get the front end lifting evenly. |
Re: QA1 help
Thanks for the input.
Tony, I adjust my Cal Trac's the same as you.I adjust the bars until the car comes out straight. With me in the car, 0 preload on both sides, with the bars in the lower hole. Car comes out straight. I found a great video on You Tube regarding double adjustable rear shocks. The info is straight forward, easy to understand, and, basic. I would have thought that QA1 tech would have been able to explain this in basic form like the video. Terry K |

Re: QA1 help
Have you tried putting the bars in the top hole with 0 preload and the ext.at 10.It should hit the tire harder and may pick up the 60' a few ticks. If you leave them in the bottom hole put a 1/4 turn preload in and set the ext. at 5.See what the car likes. gsa612

Re: QA1 help
Thanks "gsa612" for the info.
I believe hitting the tires harder is not my issue. I tried the top hole, did not work. Keeping in mind that I have a 4-speed and launch at 6700. The lower hole of my Cal Tracs with "0" preload gives me the softest hit. The stick" guys I see and talk to in Div 1 all use the bottom hole for a soft hit of the tires. I believe a soft hit with a relatively hi RPM launch is just about right. Having said that, I believe the shocks are going to complete the launch. My clutch is set up just about right(I figure). I have accomplished a few 1.50 60 ft times, problem is ,not often enough and not constantly. Terry K |
