not even close to "LIVE" from Ohio Valley

Got back from the Doorslammer Nationals late last night. I know that Nat. Opens get less coverage than the local Ice Cream Socials do so I thought I would post a few things.

Super Stock had abouut 70 cars; Stock had 42.

Top 5's.
SuperStock
1) Roger Keeling GTCA 6.75 index -.7828 5.967@112.99
2) Kevin Murphy GTMA 7.57 index -.7717 6.798@ 100.19
3) Chuck Bohannon SSGA 6.84 index -.7401 6.099@110.34
4) Joe Bohannon SSGA 6.84 index -.7232 6.1168@110.07
5) Angelo Decarlo SSJA 7.11 index -.7211 6.3889@105.38

Stock
1) Russel Fox KSA 8.11 index -.9230 7.1870@93.15
2) John Livingston FFIA 8.11 index -.7679 7.342@90.50
3) Jim Schaechter IS 7.84 index -.7272 7.1128@94.14
4) Greg Hill ESA 7.54 index -.7190 6.8210@96.97
5) Dave Walther GS 7.66 index -.7151 6.9449@96.80

Weather was HOT and HUMID! Traction was pretty good Friday and Saturday. Sunday was a bit rough, but it was mid 90's and sun!

Nice Track with some cool race cars from the area. Some notable cars ( for me at least) Robin Brown SSJ Chevy 2 283, Dave Manning GTJ 65 Chevy 2 283, Daniel Schlieker GTJ 66 Chevy 2 283 (old Sofranco and Cotton Perry car) Mike Cates GTB Calais, LArry Eagle GTB Buick, Ken Vaugh SSD 68 Camaro Ratso II, Joe Righthouse in SSC! 69 Camaro, Jimmy Bridges SSB 66 Vette, Dickie Ogles Silly Bear 69 Vette, David Rosebush SSL 65 Malibu ( Really Nice to see a young racer that actually racing a stick did a good job driving the car) Vic Krol GTC saw the car in the box later so might have broken. PJ Ballog SSI 68 Camaro.

Other Random notes:

A ton of Mattingly's and Morris' out there running. Not sure how many, but I think they could have had a team competition.

In stock there were 4 GS cars. Dave Walther took ouot Beeler Heads up rd. 2.
Gary Herche got his annual grade point in Bob Gere's Bad Buick
Gil Brannon CSA 69 SuperBee broke an axle and drove home north of Cinnci? picked up another to race again. Only to have his battery poop out rd.1 giving Capt. Jack a solo..

MJ Quinn did not make the top 5, but just missed with #6 Q. JSA effort -.7019 under 7.288@91.83

Where the hell was the -200ft DA that everyone talked about? lowest was 2200 ft and about 3800Ft Hot!

They don't wake up too early out in those parts for sure....

The Tax Group sponsors about a gabillion Superstock cars. I think you have to have 30 years+ experience and know how to swing a 4 speed though to get in.

Most of the pits are blacktop and the parts that aren't are pretty nice grass pits

This place is right by Fort Knox. (yes that one) south of Louisville. Can't miss it.

The road to Shepherdsville is like a mountain rally course (Larry Wilson did warn me) He said to watch out for the locals. It wasn't that bad, the local Stock car racers like to use both lanes on the blind curves, but they drive with their brights on so it is easy to spot them LOL.

Teardown was in the maintanance building so it was pretty nice. 2 records, myself and Gary Summers PS Mustang Convert.

Speaking of the PS car. It runs Mickey Thompson Radials....

Dave Tincher was back first time since munching the car on a huge wheelie at Indy. Had a wheelie bar on it and did fine. He had broken the Trans case on that run at Indy

Carlton Sweasy got off of his scooter and raced his car. No hired gun. He qualified better with a # 9 effort too.

Saw also Ernie Neal. He had repaired his GTA Cavalier and was going to enter the Wheelie Contest at Byron. Unfortunately, he discovered that even though he had replaced the oil pan the rack and some other stuff, he also found that the jerico case was busted. Reported that when he took the trans bolts out the ears fell off the trans! Probably better off, you have to be upside down and on fire to win that one!

The test and Tune was FREE FRIDAY if you were in Stock or Superstock. It ran from 6:30 pm to 10:30 PM. Pretty nice Huh?

I will leave you with this one. All of the indexes were lowered! It actually didn't affect anyone here save for one or two SSers. Don't know why it was lowered here and not anywere else yet. Coming to a theatre near you I am sure. Jim.

WOW...If thats correct using the best 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile converter...That comes out to -1.68...In that weather...Could be -1.90 under in good weather? Glad they are goin to lower the index's now only -1.48 ! Maybe a hp adjustment is in line! Weather was better in fontana (and I think Richmond too) this weekend, but no performance like that! Where did this car come from?

Crap, I was hoping you won after you beat me 2nd rd.

The Mopar was the Red Volare? says Starlabs on the side. I thought I remembered it being in ISA and being really really fast for I. Don't know how it fits in K. I just copied it from the Q sheet.
