Super Stock trans tunnel

The rule book is a little hard to follow, in most cases the trans shields will not fit within the stock trans tunnel confines. As SS is allowed a removable trans tunnel, can the removable tunnel be made larger so that the shields fit or is the intention that the removable tunnel be exactly the same dims as the original? This ought to open a rule book debate can of worms...

Jim,

Some time ago I asked this question to NHRA and they said the removable area is limited to what it is shown in the rule book; 6 square feet and the replacement material type must be identical to the area removed. They also said they don't specify the exact location of the removable area as long it meets the area requirements.

Re: Super Stock trans tunnel

I have seen numerous trans tunnels come through my shop in cars built by MPR, B and B, to name a few . Seems as though they all appear to be different...Don’t think you will get busted on this one...The removeable tunnels that I have seen in STOCKERS are ..shall we say....more stock appearing......LOL !!....

I had one back in 81. At the time I don't remember hearing that you couldn't do it. Mine was a tunnel from another car that was cut a little bigger than mine. Maybe no one noticed ?
