Article includes contingency info

I noticed the articles about sportsman national event winners now include contingency payout information. Why are they publishing this? It's embarrassing to show the payout has decreased in recent years. Or, is this to show NHRA's marketing staffs inability to retain or even find new contingency sponsors?

That's an idea that was brought up a long time ago, which I believe may have been by Michael Beard. It's an excellent method of promotion that shows what the racers are actually using to win and can encourage new sponsors to take advantage of the extra exposure, especially if their competitors are taking advantage of it. IHRA did it on their website, but you had to look for it on its own page. I don't recall if they did it in articles. Having it in the actual article is much better. Doing it on a divisional level couldn't hurt either. Hopefully it's not a case of not enough and too late to help revitalize the contingency program.

Fred, everybody is aware that we don't do this for the money, and that
Stock/Super Stock subsidizes the semi-pro and pro class payouts,
however, I found it to be a positive move to remind us to make sure
we have the right decals and products in place to receive the
maximum payout available.
Given the landscape of racing today, prep, no prep, High Dollar bracket
races, etc., I think NHRA has done a decent job of putting some life
back into the contingency program. J.R.

I did notice a reminder on the NHRA racer page about having correct decals for products used. Nice addition to the event coverage in the ND though.

I found it interesting and a good way to give the sponsors some additional recognition.

I don't see anyway this would hurt getting additional contingency awards.

You guys are completely missing the point. The purpose of this post was to get comments/thoughts on how the contingency sponsors and payout have decreased to virtually nothing. I remember people talking about winning as much as $18-16K as little as 10 years ago. And yet, NHRA can't seem to attract or keep contingency sponsors and appears to not really care.

There are plenty of different ones but they pay only 100-200 bucks only Chevy pays 1000

And....why does NHRA need to attract and/or keep contingency sponsors? Most of us will continue to race. Look at the races, with the exception of Comp, there are plenty of racers. There are even more that only bracket race. We have to buy safety products no matter what. Maybe we, as racers, should be finding a way to attract and keep contingency sponsors. Like not waiting until the later rounds and do the decal slap because you're getting closer to winning and thinking that that SSS might be handy.......
