361 2v

I know that the 361 4V is a good combo. While pulling parts at a salvage yard, I came across a '63 Newport 361 2v under a tarp that starts and drives with little body issues.
It can use the 915 head but the HP factor is still the same as originally listed. The 383 2V lost 25 HP and has 1.0 more compression for that same year. Yeah, it would be great to have a Chrysler in the lanes but is it do- able as a dime rocket?

I had one in 1965 in a Belvidere ll that ran F/SA at that time. 12.5 lb class in 1965. ......It was a dog and replaced it very very soon with a 426 street wedge. Much better piece.

My partner John Greenwood won AHRA World Championship in 72
with a 65 Ply Wagon 361 / 2 Brl.

You could run a Holley 500 / 2 Brl. on it and that worked well in AHRA.
Though with the factory Pea Shooler in place it was a true pooch indeed!

Interesting that more 2v combinations are being considered.

Much bigger carb than the 318 has. All great till they start running to fast.

Was that what was called a "Ball and Ball" carburetor? Did it have a a larger top than most two barrels of the day?

Stromberg and Ball and Ball were used. Don't know if one was better than the other.

Not to hijack a thread, but did someone say 2bbl. ?? I love those "odd ball" combos. I gotta admit I pull for 'odd balls", 2 bbls, 4 cyl, 6 cyl, and inlnes. I miss the old days with V, W, X, Y, and Z stock in IHRA. I first started there in 1981 helping my brother with his 1958 Chevy SS Wagon. I loved the Pintos, Vegas, 303 powered Rocket 88's, and Corvairs back in the IHRA day's. Three of the "old" IHRA Stock killers with "odd balls" were Ray Head in a 1960 impala 283 2bbl., Randall Campbell (a current NHRA runner) in his inline six nova wagon, and J.T. Allan in his 200" V6 Malibu. I know Randall and Ray both won IHRA Stock Championships, and I am pretty Sure J.T. Allen got a crown also. These guys cut a 00 light every run and you could see the tail light glow as they cross the finish line. Back then It was how you drove, not how fast you ran. I for one would love to see more of these car built. I miss the diversity that was present back in the day.

No 2 Brl. 440's as I recall.

There was a 2 Brl 400 in early 70's
