Jerry Stein
On the eve of the Division One banquet, how is Jerry Stein not in the D1 Hall of Fame? It's a disgrace!

Re: Division One
Absolutely correct Frank, his "Teachers Pet" cars and driving prowess were highlights of my youth at E-town!!!

Re: Division One
I agree. I also ask why Johnnie Maestro isn't in the R&R Hall of Fame. Jerry is and was a trip.

Re: Division One
Jerry Stein was a devoted Physical Education teacher in New Jersey until retirement, a devoted family man, a great drag racer who represented the Chrysler Plymouth brand, Division One and the sport of drag racing with enthusiasm, integrity and respect.
He is the foremost Max Wedge expert on the planet and a mentor to many of us who have had the privilege to know him. I urge all members of this forum to honor Jerry with your stories of him and support this initiative to have him inducted into the Division One Hall of Fame by contributing to this thread. Respectfully, Frank Castros |
Re: Division One
I vote 100 percent to put Jerry into the Division One hall of fame. He has won National events in and out of division. Numerous races in division, and has helped numerous racers on and off the track. He would have to be titled Mr. MoPar of division one. His MoPar knowledge that he is willing to share and his driving skills should get him in with no problem.

Re: Division One
Jerry is an icon in Div. one stock. I was there when he broke his seat at E-Town. How many of you remember that one? BP

Re: Division One
Back in the day in A/SA there was;
Jerry Stein Franks Inc. (my car) Wes Leopold Jr Anthony ? (Husky car) Joe Aluise Dan Dvorak (sometimes) Dave LeBrun Bob LeBrun And if I haven't remembered anyone I apologize. At the Summernationals and the Keystones class eliminator, Jerry was the Head Coach of the Max Wedge cars and the staging lanes and it was a show! For me it was an intimidating learning experience, but Jerry was a calming influence on the young guns like Wes and us and coached us through it. But, it was usually Jerry and the great Dave LeBrun in the final. I love Dave too, he is a drag racing idol of mine. |
Re: Division One
I remember Jerry always leaning as far forward as he could when he staged and then throwing himself back in the seat when he launched. In '80 I made the semis in Montreal and lost to Dave. Jerry and Dave went on to meet in the final with Jerry getting the Wally.
Frank - you forgot Bob Bacha, Mike Magistro and Ron Brown (Ridgerunner Speed). |
Re: Division One
I met Jerry in 63 at Island Dragway when he had just started racing his first Max Wedge Black Plymouth Savoy. We became friends over the years and he has helped me with many projects thru the years being Chevy, Ford or Mopar. He is a true thrasher in his time. To run one car is hard enough but running two cars was over the hill but not for him.His list of accomplishments definetly warrants him to be in the Div. One Hall of Fame. Quick story, A freind of ours who also had a Max Wedge Plymouth was moving from his home and took a set of Stage One Max Wedge heads and tossed them into Saddle River which was near his house. My friend called Jerry to let him know and Jerry came dowm and actually retrieved these rare heads from the river. He is a true Drag Racer. JMO Thx Joe Fasano
