I read it but I could not understand what they meant.

"...except in CS."

Looks like the change specifies the use of aftermarket heads, versus Chevy, Ford, Mopar castings, but not for CS. They also removed billet from the description.

The indexes for some of the Modified and Modified Stock classes are going to fall quite a bit, I expect.

Modified Stock is being confused with Modified (surprise).

Aftermarket aluminum heads are now allowed in Modified. (SS/CM)

Prohibited in Modified Stock.(SS/CS)

Modified is something like section 11f.

I know ss/cs has always been cast iron only but now it has "red strike through means deleted" with yellow highlite on the part that says aluminum heads prohibited in cs. go to the amendments and look at page 16 section 11d.....just trying to figure it out.....Victor

This wouldn't surprise me. There have been crybabies that couldn't run with guys in SS/BS and SS/CM/DM that only had their interests in mind, and lobbied for years to allow aluminum heads to run in SS/CS. It's very sad that NHRA let these whiners win and have virtually obsoleted any current SS/CS motor.

Everyone that has spent tens of thousands of dollars on iron head combos (23 degree valve angle heads) now get to compete against 12-15* aluminum heads that flow 80+ cfm better.

Total mistake on NHRA's part for not standing up for their customers out competing and working on these combos and folding to these lobbyists.

Quote:

SECTION 11D: MODIFIED STOCK, ENGINE:1, CYLINDER HEADS (Page 16) (10/25/16)
V-8 splayed valve permitted in AS, canted or inline in BS, inline only in CS, and any valve configuration in DS. All heads must be NHRA-accepted, two valves per cylinder, except in classes DS, ES, FS, and GS, four valves per cylinder permitted. Aftermarket aluminum cylinder heads permitted except in CS. Angle milling and/or rolling permitted. Aftermarket iron heads permitted in CS. Porting, polishing permitted; header plates permitted. Exhaust port plates that protrude into port prohibited. Any valve size permitted, valves may be tilted and/or canted. Combustion-chamber modifications permitted. The valve cover rail may be modified. Heads may be cut for larger pushrods and valve springs. External modifications permitted in port area except for
SS/CS. Spark plug holes must be in NHRA-approved location.
Making the additions and deletions to the rule and reading the entire thing as it will be written in 2017 helps.

I called NHRA tech about this wording. The rule does not change for SS/CS. It is still Iron head only.

For the rest of modified classes it will be NHRA accepted aftermarket aluminum heads allowed. You can submit the head of your choice for possible acceptance through NHRA Technical department.

im glad to hear the rule is still cast only, but it needs to say that or somebody will likely try to do alum heads.it does not say no alum or cast iron only like it used to...might save someone a big headache!
