front wheel drive slicks

Has anybody tried using a slick designed for a front wheel drive vehicle on a rear wheel drive vehicle???? What would happen if you did try it ???? Just curious--- Comp 387

I sold some of my slicks to a road racer with rwd he says they work great. I dont think the tire knows?

If you are talking about the M/T slicks 20 inches and 22 inches tall. They are very very hard. They last years.
The only reason we run them is they are short and make up some for the lack of a final drive ratio.. The best I can get is 3.73 to 1 With a motor that can make power to 9,000 rpms. I'll need to run as short a tire as possible.
The M&H tires are softer, but no where near RWD tires.
I belive, If we could get a better gear ratio nobody would use them

Art thanx for the reply was really thinking about something in a 27 or 28 inch tall tire and about 10 inches wide, really as light in weight as possible---ratios are no real problem for me--- Thanx Comp 387

You might try the real fast cars. I believe they run a 26 inch tall tire. I think Goodyear makes them.
I'm out of the loop with those guys.

we run the 22in M & H slicks. Our car is a 77 olds starfire with a v6. we are having problems with not enough side wall. I was told these slicks were FWD tires, A RWD car will transfer the weight back onto them therefore crushing them. with a taller tire it shouldn't be a problem. Contact Hoosier or the manafactor of your chose for better input.
regards.

Re: front wheel drive slicks

I raced fwd cars since 1983
no one ever ask me if they coulld run our type of tires on a rear wheel car.
But I wondered if a dragster like a vw or 6cly could because of light wt.
In 83-86 we ran Goodyear road race tires that were not slicks, they worked o.k.,
but not as good asHoosier or m/t's in the 90's-2003.
I think it would depend on the wt of your car, but WHY would you want to unless you need lots of rpm's ?
just a old man's thinking................

Tom--- 4 cyl dragster - rear gear ratio not much of a problem---looking for a 10x28 tire like the old Gyear 1744 Motorcycle tire--- no longer made ---want to get that unsprung weight down thought a FWD tire might be worth it but do not want to spend $400 to try it and not have it even pick up a little bit--No what I mean--- By the way great pix I remember most of those cars--- What are you guys doing now/// Have not seen your Olds out in a while--- Comp 387
