NHRA open to run IHRA class cars

The upcoming NHRA open event at Toronto Motorsports Park will feature all of the traditional Stock and Super Stock classes as well as the IHRA only classes such as Crate Motor Stockers, Pure Stockers, Stock GT, Production Super Stock ,ect. This is good for the IHRA cars up that way. Is NHRA testing the waters? Check it out on Drag Race Central.

This is awesome!
Good Forward Thinking!
This will help IHRA because more people will build cars.
Like McDonalds having Breakfast all day long.

Here is a novel idea, build the car per NHRA rules and you can race at any drag strip in the world.

"The event will be a double race weekend - one event on Saturday and a second on Sunday. The race entry fee will cover both races. There will be a track operated test and tune on Friday."

I wonder if it will be a double grade point? Might be worth the drive then.

Re: NHRA open to run IHRA class cars

The announcement isn't really clear. Would the IHRA class cars be inspected and classed as NHRA cars or would NHRA be calling IHRA classes to the lanes?

Would IHRA cars have to cover their Association stickers?

Pure Stock running in Stock Elim? Crate Motor cars in SS/GT?

If they lumped everything IHRA and NHRA considered Stock together and used their respective index times, the car count could be good.

For the last couple of years the tracks in Washington State east of the mountains have been IHRA while the western tracks are NHRA. It's not that much of a haul.

Ron, I can clearly see that you off your Meds again. LOL...interesting that you mention Churchill Downs, the home of the most Exciting 2 minutes in sports. I drive by that historic track as many as 3 times a week....but I have never been to the Derby.

Could have built an NHRA car to start with, and always been able to run both.
