1995 Impala SS
Curious about this car with the LT-1, are there any out there in Stock/ SuperStock? Undesirable weight break? Any other factors that would keep someone from racing one? Again , just curious
Thanks, Happy New Year! |
Re: 1995 Impala SS
Corbitt Marshburn & Brent Darroch have run the 1995-96 Impala in Stock. I don't know if they use the LT1, though.

Re: 1995 Impala SS
Dave Crampalino is the only guy I know of currently running a Impala in Stock. Darroch drove his car in the past. Darroch would be the guy to talk to.
Also the infamous Dan Fahey who currently runs IHRA Pure Stock. Hes a wealth of knowledge on the subject. We only ran Pure Stock in the past. Since moved on. |

Re: 1995 Impala SS
Hello Dan Bernay;
Welcome. Hope the following information you asked for is helpful. LT1 Iron Headed LT1's and B-Body/Impala SS are great combinations. The Iron LT1 Head is a Reverse Flow Vortec Head. Uses a special water pump and OptiSparc for ignition. The last SBC engine before the LS series. Here is a run down of the racers using the B-Body Combination. Dave Campolito's car originally built by Brent Darroch ran the K/L/M Stock Automatic space. Dave bought that car and put in a baby LT1 and Caprice nose . Mike Epprecht owns a 96 Caprice (Snowflake) running a baby LT1. Snowflake was originally owned by Corbitt . They competed for the Q and R/SA space using the baby LT1. The baby LT1 was all of 265 cubic inches running mid 12's. Dave and Corbitt were crushing those national records back and forth.. Until they received mandatory invitations by NHRA to slow them down. Snowflake was originally built by Bernie Steinke competing against Karl Elwine during the Big Dog ECIRS racing days. Later bought by (Mr) PCMforLess owner Bryan Herter. Corbitt eventually acquired Snowflake to run Stock. Before Snowflake, Corbitt purchased Scott Kaufman's 383/NOS 1995 Impala SS converted to F Pure Stocker. Corbitt nailed the F/PS National Record at an awesome 12.55sec. In fact went even quicker at a Cold Air Day event. Running 12.39 at 107 mph in his Pure Stocker. Corbitt's last B-body was gorgeous all black G/PS Caprice/SS nosed wagon and able to run under the NHRA M/SA index. He sold the car to another racer in the Carolina's. Then purchased a B/PS LT1 Camaro. Dave's son upgraded their Red Caprice/Impala to a full 350 LT1. Runs J/SA and serious wheel standing 11 second ET's. My 1995 Impala SS runs G and F Pure Stock, owned since new. Raced it since 2001 driving the car to the tracks. Run brackets, ECIRS, independent S/SS and IHRA Pure Stock. Best run to date; Cecil at 12.88/103.64 running G/PS weight. This year began towing it to the races with a upgraded 94 Caprice Wagon. Parts are easy to get. The chassis is similar to the Chevelle's/GTO's of the 60's/70's. I use Dick Millers suspension pieces to beef up the rear. Check out www.ECIRS.net and www.impalassforum.com for more information and history about B-Body racing. Right now plans are to pull the engine and trans for upgrades. My intention is to crack the national records set by the infamous Corbitt Marshburn :D Dan |
