During the NHRA PRE Compton retirement Press Conference:

“The NHRA does not address rumors,” Vestal said, according to Wade. “We do have a great management team in place to run the company in Tom’s absence, and, as a result, our business and racing operations haven’t missed a beat.


During the NHRA POST Compton retirement Press Conference:

Clifford denounced false reports that the NHRA will sell all or part of its assets. "We're going forward. We're very excited about the initiatives we have. We're confident about our future. The company is not for sale," he said emphatically, scoffing at scuttlebutt in the past couple of weeks "about us being sold to Bahrain or something like that. These rumors circulated are not true. We're going to be focusing on these initiatives. We looked before about finding a great strategic partner out there to help us with television, and that fell through. But now we're pursuing it on our own, and we're very, very confident about the future."

So I guess the main take away here is now that Compton is gone, NHRA does address rumors. Interesting they wouldn’t address rumors while he was MIA.

So either Vestal lied that NHRA doesn’t address rumors, or Clifford broke the NHRA rules by addressing rumors. Or maybe Vestal meant to say that NHRA doesn’t address rumors that make them look bad, but they do address rumors that make them look good.
