Street Outlaws and NHRA.
A friend of mind sent me this! Here is the letter NHRA sent to an unnamed Street Outlaw racer...

Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
Are you kidding me...............
Conduct away from the track????????? 1984 here we come again........ Maybe NHRA should call the NFL and see how that's working for them??? Some of the NFL players conduct is beyond terrible, but they draw a paycheck from the NFL......... NHRA could write that letter, if the person that they set it to had a contract with the NHRA that regulated their conduct away from the track...... Is NHRA is trying to regulate conduct away from the track for all who race NHRA????? If NHRA going to examine off track conduct, they should be looking in their own backyard…...... PS: This should be moved to the regular forum because it could be applied to any off track behavior, by any NHRA member............ |
Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
As to the reason of the letter (televised illegal street racing) ....I agree with Nhra. It is a double edged sword, but if a person isn't doing anything wrong they have nothing to worry about.

Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
I like the show but its not really good for the sport of organized drag racing. They do refer to their style of racing as street racing and not drag racing. I don't really think they are racing with out some sort of supervision and knowledge by the authorities. Its a TV show and entertainment so most of it is probably staged.

Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
I agree with Dion and Mike.
Here is my Beef. There is no safety checks and when someone dies the general public is going to group us NHRA racers in with them... Point in case... This was filmed at the Colorado Street outlaws. Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
The show never claims to have any association with NHRA. Even NHRA decals are covered over. Nobody states they have a current NHRA license and the car passes NHRA tech. Videos or TV shows of thrills and spills, car chases that end bad, race cars used as get away cars should also have a letter sent from NHRA. Its a TV show made up to look like a actual illegal street race. Common guys really. NHRA is not involved with anything in the show so lets keep it that way. Now if NHRA wants to come on the show and have a episode about safety and where Outlaws should be racing that would be good for the sport.

Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
This is NOTHING MORE than NHRA seething over the better TV ratings of the SO show.
The racing filmed is 100% legal. Use permits are issued, the "streets" are blocked off. Further emergency support is always on scene. It's all scripted and staged for TV. You know a "reality" show... The real problem as I see it is the High and Mighty stance NHRA has taken, when they have plenty of "improper conduct" skeletons in their closets. |
Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
Jeff and cudadoug hit the nail on the head -
NHRA's letter states "Future participation in the show or any show of this nature", so they are trying to restrict participation in a reality show they don't like, not illegal street racing. |
Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
That is the first step to figure out how to make money off the show. I bet fines are on the way!!

Re: Street Outlaws and NHRA.
Wow I hope an NHRA official doesn't drive down my road and see all the rubber in front of my house. The letters in the mail.
