R.I.P. AA Dale, and thanks for the great memories of watching you winning races and tuning Kenny Bernstein's cars to many great race wins also.... :(

Re: Dale Armstrong passes
It is somewhat surprising to see the lack of response on this forum to the passing of Dale Armstrong . Perhaps it is not widely remembered that he began his career racing door slammers before acquiring the well deserved sobriquet "AA Dale". My first recollection of this giant of the sport is watching his wicked, 409-powered, orange 55 Chev making a pass on a runway at the Namao airforce base in Edmonton, Alberta. From those humble beginnings, he graduated to gassers and other more esoteric race cars, having moved on to the big time in Southern California. Surely there are others who can relate to his illustrious career and his early "class racer" days.

Dale Armstrong passes
R.I.P. Dale. A true driver/tuner/innovator of the sport. From the nova "the canuck" to going 300 w/ Kenny Bernstein Dale did it all. Probably one of the best, if not the best, Pro/Comp racers ever. There is a very nice tribute column by Phil Burgess on the NHRA website - Dragster Insider.

Re: Dale Armstrong passes
Dale was a brilliant tuner, great driver and all-around good guy. Always had time for a quick chat when I saw him in Brainerd.

Re: Dale Armstrong passes
Many years ago, I wrote the newsletter for the 409 Chevy Club of America- a truly fun experience.Dale Armstrong had a black 62 Bel Air bubbletop, red interior, 409 with quads, 4 speed, the whole thing. Very nice car. we had a photo shoot at Griffith Park one Sunday with Doug Marion from Super Chevy, a subsequent issue featured it. Dale came brought the Bel Air, and we had a great time. He was a truly nice guy. He had funny stories of being on tour, of racing fuelers, and what it was like to light off a fuel car in an industrial park shop. Really woke the neighbors. I saw him a few times at P
omona during various national events, no doubt about it Dale was one of the good guys. He will be missed. |
