Vic, last year they had turkey trott in Nov. At Gainesville it was a natl
Open all the east coast boys came down and lowered natl records...

The late November National Open in Gainesville went by the wayside due to lower than hoped attendance (same fate as the Open held in earlier years at Valdosta). Shame because there is usually records set (Duzac, Westcott, Johnson, etc). Suppose most folks are "traveled out" or need to start motor refreshes that time of year.

For a long time they use to have the NHRA Winter Series. We really looked forward to it with our Alky Funny Car. Came to Florida for 2 or 3 races around Thanksgiving, it was a blast. Not sure what happened other than lack of interest / economy ? It's sad they pick up on it for ONE year and schedule a "Turkey Trot National Open. " Not enough cars, so it's cancelled ! .... Too bad, I wonder how many cars (including myself) , that didn't go last year, were planning on coming this year? Up north we had The Indy Fall Classic, or Maple Grove's Dutch Classic. Both annually scheduled events are usually well attended. Weather playing a big part. I really think they needed to give The Turkey Trots more than a one year trial. - JB -

I sent an e-mail to Rich Schaffer the div 2 director a couple of weeks ago asking about the thanksgiving race. He has not responded so I assume there is no race. I liked the winter series races that we had down here in years past. Orlando, Bradenton, Palm Beach. Also the Valdosta race was a good time as well. Good way to pick up a grade point at the end of the year if you need one. The weather was usually nice and fast.

I was planning on going to the Turkey Trots this year. Has anyone received a positive answer If the national open was not going to happen. Last year it went right down to the wire to decide to have that race. I was thinking they were just doing the same thing.

Last year it was on the schedule by this time...but it's not on the D2 or Gainesville track schedule. Perhaps it's not too late...suggest folks drop Rich an e:mail...see the D2 website.
