The P/W factor may have been different from what it is now.

I believe Kenny Horne set the A/S record in 70 or 71 in a 67 GTO. Kenny still lives in Fayetteville, NC I think. He may know some of the history.

Here is some info: The 1970 A/S record was an 11.45 minimum through August 21. The B/S record at that time was an 11.56 held by one of the Tony Pizzi cars.

rules and pushed all the older stockers into Super Stock...and Stock cars had to be '65 and newer...(later changed to '60 and newer.)...and the "build" for Stockers had to be MORE stock than the previous years..... Don't have a lot of stuff from that time frame BUT look for a guy named Mark Mazotta...he ran a '66 Corvette out of the Lebrun camp in CT. I know he got the A/S mph record in 71 at the E-town points meet...I was there for that...(and the rain date).. and have a program from that event somewhere...listing his accomplishment....He may have run the car during the 70 season but I don't know.... There was a Janetti-Wood team from the Philly area with a '69 Camaro about that time...they were the "hitters" in B/S...not sure if they ran "A"...Tony Pizzi power I believe.... |

I have some information on a 1968 Camaro called "The Fugitive" based out of the Pacific Northwest. Does anyone recall this car from that period in time? Any Photos? Thank you…Maurice.

SS Wannabe
Think Kenny was 70 or 71. I started working Div. II tech in 70 and the first time I met Kenny was to certify the car for the record. I moved to Fayetteville in Jan of 73 and already knew Kenny. Again, working with an old mind. Think old cars were in stock thru 71. 72-73 was a cutoff at 63, 74-75 was cutoff at 65 and 76 went back to 60. Maurice, I will try to get in touch with Kenny and see what he remembers. |

Maurice, You might try TOM KASCH on this forum. He was doing research in old National Dragsters from that time frame for a book he was helping with. He may have access to what you want. |
