SS Build Question?

I do not have a rule book in front of me. But, I would like to know a couple things. 1) Can you put the brake and clutch pedal on the floor for a traditional SS car? Say a Duster or Early Camaro? Or a new COPO or Cavalier? 2) Who makes these nice clean Cylindrical steering columns that I have seen in may cars? I mean no keys, turning signals, tilt, nothing but a clean column that appears to be longer and tapered towards the steering wheel. 3) Lastly, how big of a removal trans tunnel can you put in a car? Also does it have to "look" like a OEM tunnel? I am just asking question for your opinion, perhaps some chassis builders can answer these questions for me?

Re: SS Build Question?

I need to look the rest up, but the removable trans tunnel limit is six square feet. Flaming River makes a lot of good replacement steering columns.

EDIT: Floor mounted pedals are allowed for Modified Stock only.

What about the new cars? CJ, COPO Drag Pak's etc, can they run the floor mounted pedals in those cars in SS not modified?

Re: SS Build Question?

not unless they came from trrhe factory that way -- COPO/Drag Pak/ Mustang did whatever they wanted cuz its assembled by the "factory" so its considered OEM

Re: SS Build Question?

I could be wrong, but an aftermarket steering column might be frowned upon. Removable steering wheel is ok.

Re: SS Build Question?

Steering column has to look stock and be stock length.

Re: SS Build Question?

Thank you guys for your response. I agree with all of you. But, I have seen and there are pictures available to anyone of what I am talking about being built/raced. I have seen a questionable steering column in a Hemi car. I have seen questionable pedals in a new mustang that just won Best Eng. also a transmission tunnels that looks really Big. I know when I have spoken to some tech people and they have refereed to the rule book, rightfully so, but then there is a car right behind them with these very things done? I want to update my fathers car here soon and I want to make some improvements so I am looking for clarification to what I have seen vs. the rule book. Is there a "Understanding"? A unwritten rule but some chassis shops have a letter stating what's legal?

Re: SS Build Question?

Get a rule book and follow it.

The only scenarios in which pedals go on the floor are if they come that way from the factory or it's a front wheel drive conversion. Removable trans tunnel limited to a total of no more than 6 square feet. Steering column must be stock appearing and stock length.

Just because you see something in someone else's car doesn't mean it's legal in yours. Don't get cute with the sanctioning body unless you like sitting on the sidelines with empty pockets.
