new leadership?

Was watching a nascar press conference and saw they are discussing changing the engines now. At first I didnt like it but then after listening to they would like to slow them down and make it cheaper. Now as a drag race fan I wonder why arent our leader thinking the same? Wouldnt it be angood idea to change the pro combo's to make it cheaper and to return fuel to a full quarter mile. With a cheaper budget we would have bigger entries more sponsorship. With Garlits, Prudomme and others out there why is nobody asking these things?

Good point and same for other classes like Stk and SS. Cant be that many millionaires who want to race but there are many with morelimited budgets who could enhance the racing for everyone.

I'll bet there are quite a few Nascar team owners that are none too happy about hearing that! Imagine taking all those millions and years invested in R&D, and all that equipment and making it obsolete with the stroke of a pen. OUCH!

On the other hand making things less expensive in our sport, good plan. I love the IHRA crate motor stuff and really thing a crate motor SS deal would really help out car counts. Maybe allow crate motors in a GT car?

I would hope that crate motor stuff stays in IHRA. We don't need any more miss-factored stuff "over here".

Nascar imposed a 358 cubic inch limit years ago to slow things down, these engines are designed specifically and make @850hp and are able to run at 9500RPM with durability. The R&D with engine technology constantly evolves in Nascar as well as NHRA. Limitations in Motorsport doesn't mean it will become more affordable, it means teams will have to work harder with R&D to keep the current pace. Nascar constructively works with manufacturers in regards to the future of their racing. The changes that will occur most likely will be reversible if required. Carburetor and plate restriction or displacement with stroke could mean maybe 100hp less for awhile. Qualifying speeds are at 200+ now. Safety is the concern for the changes, they want to slow things down a little again. R&D Engineers will be making the same power with less RPM if any changes are made. The only "affordability" will come from running a engine maybe a 1000 RPM lower. "Changes" won't be happily accepted but you can put money on it, the R&D has already started to overcome. Body and tire technology will also continue to improve to keep things fast. These changes don't mean Nascar will be going to "crate engines" to keep costs down. Motorsport was never meant to be "slowed down" and technology has advanced to make things "expensive" if your participation includes "winning". MB.
