New Clevite (mahle) H series brgs look terrible ??
This is the first time I have ordered 'H' series Clevite bearings. Previously only used the P series, or King Alecular. These Mahle Clevite H series bearings have extreme discoloration and a strange pattern to the babbit I have never seen before. The backings are also purple and blued as in what I suspect is evidence of high temperatures during the manufacturing process.
Perhaps this is all a result of the different babbit alloy that the H series uses, needing a higher temperature to braze to the backing.... But it also almost looks like they were exposed to some sort of corrosive atmosphere which attacked the babbit ???? They really look quite terrible, and I would think they would include a little statement about that in the box if that is normal ??? Sorry if this has been asked before.. I tried searching the forum to no avail, and the Clevite (Mahle) website is now beyond painful to navigate.. |

The H series bearings do not have the same over lay as the P series, they look dark and stained. That's normal.
The rod bearings are narrowed, not chamfered. |

I have those. They aren't plated so they aren't very pretty. That's all. The thrust bearing should be one piece with no welding, which makes it nice and strong. Kind of the Ugly Betty of the bearing world.

In case you don't know rod bearings have upper and lowers, uppers have U,lowers have L
uppers go in rod and lowers go in cap, they are narrowed to clear radius on crank Mike Taylor 3601 |
